Top 5 guilt-free (blissful) chocolates

Calling all sweet-toothed chocoholics out there (and yes, I am a self-professed member of the club).  Did you know that there’s more to chocolate than the run-of-the-mill supermarket varieties? The ones which often include low levels of cocoa and high level of refined sugar?  Whilst being tantalising to your taste buds, refined sugar is well documented as being detrimental to your health.  But the good news is that darker varieties of chocolate are known to be lower in sugar than their dairy milk counterparts.

The health benefits of high quality (particularly dark) chocolate have received much media coverage. One study in 2013 found that adults who consumed chocolate more frequently had a lower BMI than those who consumed chocolate less often. Another study suggested that moderate chocolate consumption may lower the risk of stroke in men.  And according to Elsevier’s eye-opening infographic ‘What science says about chocolate’ the breadth of medicinal effects that chocolate has on health range from the prevention of cardiovascular  disease through to diseases of ageing.

So, it seems there’s plenty to be positive about when it comes to a sneaky treat of the brown sweet!  And luckily, the good news is that we’ve done the hard work to unearth some super healthier varieties of your favourite snack.
